Last year, we bought a second home in Cortona, Italy and embarked on the process of designing and furnishing it from scratch. As Americans who live 4,000+ miles away from our new home, we knew we needed help to get this project done and are so, so grateful to have found Suman. We started working with Suman the same week we closed on our new house and she got to work right away providing guidance and recommendations for each space. She took thorough measurements for every room, helped us prioritize which spaces to furnish first, and created a "lookbook" for the house to ensure we were aligned on overall style and color scheme. She is very organized and detail-oriented, which was a huge help during our process. She has many connections and experience with local & chain furniture stores, so she was able to offer us super helpful direction as we got started in terms of where to look online for certain pieces we were seeking. She also acted as the primary coordinator to receive furniture when it was delivered. It gave us great peace of mind to know she was on the receiving end for all of our new home wares & furniture while we were living so far away! In addition to furniture and accessories, we also needed to outfit the house with a kitchen and put lighting throughout and Suman was invaluable in both processes. She helped us design each room and we used her connections and recommendations during the entire project. Now that the project is complete, can happily say that our home in Italy is everything we dreamed it would be!

We bought a beautiful little house in Umbria. We had to furnish it and add decoration in a short period of time. We found SUMAN who in a very short period of time understood our needs and our taste and located ideas and suppliers that fit our requirements and the budget we set for the project. We arrived for a short foray at the suppliers, together with Suman we finally chose the items and she then made sure for us that everything would arrive home and be placed and arranged properly. Shortly after buying a home in Cortona, in Arezzo, I realized it was going to need a little more than some touchup work to make it a quality high-end rental. I found Suman on Houzz, liked her portfolio, and asked how she’d feel working for a client an ocean away on a house two hours away. A year later, I can’t imagine what a miserable slog it would have been with almost anybody else. Aside from her beautiful and tasteful design, Suman has been our show runner, our problem solver, our hands-on fixer (remember The Wolf, from Pulp Fiction?). Even though she’s not our property manager, she’s been involved in every aspect of the remodel, working closely with him and the contractors and me through each step from the vision to the completion of this first stage of a planned three year, three stage upgrade, taking so long because of the limitations of time (projects to be done in the off- season) and money (next year’s project to be paid for with this year’s rental income). For each aspect, she presents a concept, asks my opinion, gives me options at two or three price points, and then runs with it. For someone like me whose mind races in a hundred directions all at once, Suman is the perfect complement - creative but focused, with charts and spreadsheets and meticulously detailed and documented bills and expenses, and seemingly infinite patience to deal with my many many questions, never dismissing my ideas as dumb or unworthy or uninformed as they probably are. She might regret the day she gave me her e-mail or put me in a WhatsApp group with herself and the property manager and a contractor, but she’s never complained or asked me to stifle my questions and suggestions, which, by now are certainly in the hundreds. In the last days before the first rental, Home Staging Suman took over from Design Suman and set up the house for the photographer and the guests.

I worry that I’m not saying as much about her work as I am about her work ethic, but art criticism is not my forte. The photos will show the result I’m so happy with, the place I hope to be my home in a few years. Everyone needs a Suman, just like everyone needs a cool aunt, and a favorite teacher who believes in them, and a good lawyer who will clue you in to the questions you should be asking. If I had her at work, I could conquer the world. As it is, I plan to keep her working on design projects on this house for the foreseeable future because I can’t imagine my Italian home without her. So yes, I would recommend her to anyone buying a property in or near Tuscany.
